I visited Guatemala City on December 18th and 19th 2018.
After Semuc Champey Kate and made our way to Guatemala City. It was the end of Kate’s trip so she needed to get to the airport, and I was heading west to Lago de Atitlán.
We had a couple bumps along the way including a bus breaking down and Kate getting sick.
Guatemala City was a cool experience. After spending a lot of time sitting on boats and touring rural areas coming to a modern city was very different. Downtown Guatemala City has shopping malls, luxury clothing stores, and McDonalds. The city was getting fully into Christmas, the central park was full of shopping stalls, people, and above everything a giant Christmas tree. There was a group on a big stage playing Christmas music. We spent that night walking around park and downtown looking for some soup that Kate was craving, enjoying the festive atmosphere.
The next morning I said goodbye to Kate and caught my bus to Lago de Atitlan.
